DAN COVERLEY FOR DOUGLAS COUNTY SHERIFF

DAN COVERLEY FOR DOUGLAS COUNTY SHERIFF

ABOUT DAN COVERLEY

Captain Dan Coverley has served at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office since 1997 and was endorsed by current Sheriff Ron Pierini as the candidate most qualified to lead the office in the future. Coverley has held every rank and has worked in every division, culminating with his promotion to captain. During his career, he has worked as a patrol officer, motorcycle officer, investigator and sergeant. He was on the SWAT team for 16 years, serving as team leader for the last eight years. Coverley was one of the original members of the Street Enforcement Team (SET), which tackled narcotics. His comprehensive experience within the Sheriff’s office has given him the skills and the knowledge to understand and combat any issues that may arise in Douglas County.

Born in Carson City and raised in Gardnerville, Coverley has always called Douglas County home. He graduated from Douglas High School, where he played football under his father, Bill Coverley. As a long-time head coach of the varsity football team, Bill Coverley, was known for leading the Douglas Tigers to their first state championship.

After graduating from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Criminology, Coverley began his career in law enforcement with the Albuquerque Police Department, where he worked for two years, before he and his wife, Sarah, decided to return home. Together, they have raised their three daughters in Douglas County, a place Coverley says is the most beautiful place to raise a family. Coverley’s daughters continued the family tradition of attending Douglas High School and excelling in varsity sports.

Coverley stays busy in the community. He has coached football at Douglas High School, club soccer, and rec-league basketball. Coverley enjoys the beauty of Douglas County, and the limitless opportunities it allows for recreation. He enjoys hunting, fishing, skiing, and team roping. Coverley and his family have roots in the agriculture of the Carson Valley where they lease a small ranch and raise beef cattle.
Coverley’s commitment to the community, and his desire for it to retain its rural, peaceful character, have led him to fight hard against crime. If elected Douglas County Sheriff, Coverley will continue to work hard to keep the neighborhoods clean from gangs and drugs in order to continue making Douglas County a safe place to live and raise children.

Coverley has a firm belief that Douglas County owes its safety and security to the dozens of deputies that patrol the streets and respond to calls. As sheriff, Coverley will work to offer a more competitive salary in an effort to recruit and maintain these qualified deputies. He will be a leader who will work closely with the deputies to make sure they are supported and have the resources they need to be effective. He wants Douglas County residents to have confidence that the sheriff’s office will do what’s right at all times and keep Douglas County safe and great place to live and raise a family.

Thank you for your support!

Dan will continue to work hard to keep making Douglas County a safe place to live and raise children by keeping the neighborhoods clean from gangs and drugs, work to offer a more competitive salary in an effort to recruit and maintain qualified deputies and will make sure they are supported and have the resources they need to be effective.
